How it works
Humanin was found in a screen of surviving neurons in Alzheimer's-affected brain tissue. It is cytoprotective, suppressing apoptosis through interaction with Bax and through a receptor complex involving gp130. Circulating levels fall with age, and higher levels have been observed in the offspring of centenarians.
Animal studies only. Findings come from rodent or in-vitro models. Animal results frequently fail to replicate in people.
